For the One-Day Class:
Please prepare ahead for the class as outlined below. It will make class time I have with you much more productive.
SEAM ALLOWANCES: ¼" throughout. (NOT scant 1/4".)
ROTARY CUT FABRIC AS FOLLOWS:
Cut FOUR full-width strips (42-44") of each color (light and dark fabric) the following sizes:
- 1 3/8"
- 1 1/4"
- 1 1/8"
Cut as precisely as possible and write the size of each of your strips on the selvage to keep track of various strip sizes as you are sewing
Starting with the largest cut strips (1-3/8”), sew Color A to Color B. Then move to the next size strips (1-1/4”) and sew Color A to Color B. Repeat this with successively smaller strips until finished. **You will be sewing together 2 sets of 1” strips and 2 sets of 7/8” strips, so there will be twice as many of these!
Since you have labeled the selvages with the sizes of the strips, you can easily keep track of these pairs of strips
With a dry iron, press one type of Strip Set's seam allowances up and the other type of Strip Set's seam allowances down.
Now, sew the pairs of successively smaller strips together, creating 4 large sets of strips to match the illustration provided above. Two of these large strip sets will have Color A at the top and 2 will have Color B at the top. There will be a total of 16 strips in each large set.
Optional strip: 1 1/2" (Cut TWO from each color), see diagram below for placement.
