For the One-Day Class:

Please prepare ahead for the class as outlined below. It will make class time I have with you much more productive.
SEAM ALLOWANCES: ¼” throughout.

ROTARY CUT FABRIC AS FOLLOWS:

4 full-width strips (40 –44”) of each (Color “A” and Color “B”) fabric at the following sizes:

  • 1-3/8” (finished sizes of strips will be ½” less than cut size)
  • 1-1/4”
  • 1-1/8”
  • 1”
  • 1”
  • 7/8”
  • 7/8”
  • ¾”

Also cut 2 full-width strips of each color at 1-1/2” wide and set aside for class.

Cut as precisely as possible and label the selvedges of your strips with a pencil to keep track of the various sizes as you are sewing.

STRIP-PIECE TOGETHER AS FOLLOWS:

Alternating your two colors, Color “A” and Color “B,” sew together the successive strips, in decreasing size. Place the largest strip of Color “A” next to the largest strip of Color “B” and sew. Continue adding successively smaller strips with the alternating colors. (There will be TWO SETS of 1” and 7/8” strips.) Keep your seam allowances as even as possible.

Press with dry iron as needed, trying to keep the seam allowances straight for rotary cutting later. Iron the seam allowances one way on the sets of strips beginning with Color “A” and the opposite direction on the sets beginning with Color “B “ so that they will nestle together nicely when sewing together later.

On the 1st set of strips, start out with Color “A” and alternate it with Color “B.” Make a 2nd set exactly this way.

On the 3rd set of strips, start out with Color “B” followed by Color “A.” Make a 4th set exactly this way. In this way, your colors will alternate in your finished circle. Press carefully.
